PROSTATE HEALTH FAITH MEDICINE

๐Ÿฆ… PROSTATE HEALTH: A DIVINE STEWARDSHIP OVER THE TEMPLE OF GOD

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God?” โ€” 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV)

A Health Teaching from Christ’s Good News Mission Health Blog.

๐Ÿ™ OPENING REFLECTION

Beloved family in Christ, our God is not only concerned with the salvation of your soul โ€” He is deeply concerned about the health of your body, for it is the temple in which His Spirit dwells. As we minister the Good News of Salvation, we are equally commissioned, like our Master, Jesus Christ, “to heal the brokenhearted… and to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18). Sickness โ€” including the silent, often-ignored struggles many of our men face with their prostate health โ€” is an area where oppression of the enemy can manifest in the body, and where wisdom, prayer, and proper medical stewardship must work hand in hand.

Today’s teaching combines sound, current medical research with biblical faith โ€” because true health ministry does not despise medicine; it embraces both divine power and human wisdom, for “Physician, heal thyself” was never meant to replace the wisdom God has given to medical science (Matthew 9:12; Colossians 4:14 โ€” Luke the physician was among the beloved brethren).

๐Ÿ“– PART ONE: UNDERSTANDING THE PROSTATE โ€” THE SILENT GLAND

The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland forming part of the male reproductive system, located beneath the bladder. As our brothers grow older โ€” especially from 40 years and above โ€” three conditions commonly arise:

BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) โ€” non-cancerous enlargement, affecting up to 50% of men in their 60s and 90% of men over 80

Prostatitis โ€” inflammation causing pain and urinary discomfort

Prostate Cancer โ€” abnormal, potentially life-threatening cell growth

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿคโ€๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพ Who Should Be Especially Watchful

Two groups of men carry a higher-than-average risk and should not wait for symptoms before speaking to a doctor:

Men of Black African or Black Caribbean descent โ€” carrying roughly double the lifetime risk of prostate cancer compared with the general population.

Men with a father or brother who has had prostate cancer โ€” family history further raises risk, especially if the relative was diagnosed young.

Beloved, this is not a word of fear but a word of stewardship. Knowing your risk is not doubt โ€” it is wisdom that positions you for early detection and, by God’s grace, early victory.

โš ๏ธ Warning Signs Every Man (and His Wife!) Should Watch For

Frequent urination, especially waking at night (nocturia)

Weak or interrupted urine flow

Difficulty starting or stopping urination

Blood in urine or semen

Pain or burning during urination

Pain in the lower back, hips, or pelvis

Erectile difficulties

Unexplained weight loss

Pastoral Note: Brethren, do not suffer in silence out of embarrassment or false pride. Many men die not because there was no cure, but because they refused to speak; refused to see a doctor; and refused to have a prostate test early. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Let this Scripture provoke you to action, not fear.

๐ŸŒฟ PART TWO: HERBAL TRADITIONS โ€” WHAT DOES CURRENT SCIENCE ACTUALLY SAY?

Our Mission believes in God’s provision through nature, Genesis 1:29 โ€” “I have given every herbโ€ฆ for meat” โ€” but we equally believe in truth and diligence (Proverbs 4:7). Below is an honest, updated review of commonly discussed herbs โ€” separating popular belief from confirmed clinical evidence, current as of the latest available medical research.

  1. ๐Ÿ”ด Saw Palmetto โ€” Popular, But Evidence Has Changed

For years, saw palmetto was the most recommended herb for prostate symptoms. However, a major 2024 Cochrane systematic review (27 clinical trials, 4,656 men) found it does NOT meaningfully improve urinary symptoms or quality of life, whether used alone or in combination โ€” short-term or long-term. The UK’s national health guidance body (NICE) now advises against offering phytotherapy for BPH. This is an important update even for well-meaning herbal counsellors โ€” what was popular yesterday is not always proven today.

  1. ๐ŸŸข Pygeum Africanum (African Cherry Bark) โ€” Genuinely Promising

Unlike saw palmetto, Pygeum has real supportive clinical evidence. A Cochrane review of 18 randomised trials (1,562 men) found Pygeum users were twice as likely to report symptom improvement compared to placebo, with peak urine flow improving by 23% and nighttime urination decreasing by 19%. Side effects were mild. Current medical literature (AAFP, 2023) even acknowledges Pygeum “may be effective” โ€” a rare endorsement for an herbal remedy.

  1. ๐ŸŸก Stinging Nettle Root (Urtica Dioica) โ€” Moderate, Encouraging Evidence

Clinical trials, including a 100-patient randomised double-blind study, show nettle root significantly reduces BPH symptom scores (AUA/IPSS) compared to placebo over 8 weeks, with anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties from its phytosterols and lignans. It is often safely combined with prescribed medication (tamsulosin) without harmful interaction.

  1. ๐ŸŸข Pumpkin Seed Extract โ€” Solid, Long-Term Trial Support

Two major 12-month randomised, placebo-controlled trials (over 1,400 men combined) found pumpkin seed extract produced a clinically meaningful reduction in urinary symptoms, was well-tolerated, and โ€” importantly โ€” caused no adverse change in PSA levels, making it one of the safer complementary options for mild-to-moderate symptoms.

  1. ๐Ÿ”ด Graviola (Soursop) โ€” Popular Online, But Unproven and Risky

Despite widespread promotion as a “cancer cure” on social media, Cancer Research UK and Memorial Sloan Kettering both confirm there is no human evidence it treats cancer. Its cancer-fighting properties exist only in laboratory dishes and animals. Of serious concern: Graviola has been linked to neurotoxicity and Parkinson’s-like symptoms in populations with heavy consumption, and it can dangerously lower blood pressure/blood sugar and interfere with cancer imaging scans. We caution our congregation strongly against relying on Graviola (Soursop) as a cancer treatment.

  1. ๐ŸŸก Curcumin (Turmeric) โ€” Promising in the Lab, Unproven in Humans

Curcumin shows strong anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activity in laboratory studies, but of over 45 clinical trials registered, only one has been completed specifically in prostate cancer patients โ€” and a major Phase III trial combining curcumin with chemotherapy did not improve survival. Poor absorption by the body remains a major limitation. Interesting science โ€” but not yet a proven treatment.

  1. ๐ŸŸข Lycopene (from Cooked Tomatoes) โ€” Best Dietary Evidence

A large meta-analysis (43,851 cases, over 690,000 participants) found higher lycopene intake associated with a 12% reduced risk of prostate cancer, with men in the highest lycopene category showing up to 44โ€“60% lower risk of aggressive cancer. This is the strongest population-level dietary evidence among all reviewed substances โ€” though it reflects prevention, not a treatment for existing cancer, and clinical trial confirmation is still limited.

โœ๏ธ PART THREE: THE MISSION’S HEALTH DOCTRINE โ€” FAITH AND MEDICINE, WALKING TOGETHER

Beloved, our Mission does not teach that God is absent from the herb, nor that He is absent from the hospital. Both the herbalist (Alternative medicine practitioner) and the oncologist can be instruments in God’s hand โ€” but neither replaces the need for the other.

We say boldly to our congregation:

There is NO official, WHO-certified herbal “solution” or cure for prostate cancer proven by science, yet. Herbal practitioners have not presented a cure that is tested and approved by the World Health Organisation or any world health body, as at today. Anyone selling you a “guaranteed herbal cure” for cancer is either deceived or deceiving you. “Buy the truth, and do not sell it” (Proverbs 23:23).

Prostate cancer is a serious matter requiring proper medical diagnosis โ€” PSA testing, digital rectal exam, biopsy, and imaging by qualified urologists and oncologists. (A note for our UK readers: the NHS does not currently invite men for routine PSA screening, as the test can give false results either way โ€” but any man over 50 can ask his GP for a PSA test after a short discussion of the pros and cons, and men with the risk factors above are encouraged to have that conversation even earlier.)

Modern medicine offers real, God-given tools for prostate cancer treatment, depending on the stage:

Localised cancer (Stage Iโ€“II): Watchful waiting, active surveillance, radical prostatectomy (surgery), or radiation therapy โ€” often curable at this stage, with survival rates exceeding 99% for localised disease.

Locally advanced (Stage III): External radiation combined with hormone therapy, sometimes with surgery.

Advanced/Metastatic (Stage IV): Hormone therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bisphosphonates, and targeted radiopharmaceutical treatments โ€” many men live long, productive lives even at this stage with proper treatment.

Herbs like Pygeum, nettle, and pumpkin seed may genuinely help ease mild BPH symptoms and can be reasonably used as complementary support โ€” always disclosed to your doctor, and never as a substitute for cancer treatment.

Herb-drug interactions are real. Some herbs (especially Graviola/Soursop) interfere with chemotherapy, blood pressure medication, and diagnostic scans. “Do all things decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40) โ€” this includes how we combine treatments.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ PART FOUR: THE SPIRITUAL PRESCRIPTION

While we pursue medical wisdom, we do not abandon our confidence in the Great Physician:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul… who heals all your diseases.” โ€” Psalm 103:1โ€“3

We encourage every brother facing prostate concerns to:

See a doctor without delay โ€” early detection saves lives. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).

Pray specifically and persistently โ€” join our Thursday Divine Encounter & Miracles service and our 3rd Friday King’s Night of Good News for focused intercession.

Declare healing scriptures over your body daily โ€” Isaiah 53:5, Psalm 103:3, 3 John 1:2.

Eat wisely โ€” increase cooked tomato products and pumpkin seeds, and reduce excessive red meat and processed foods, honouring the body as God’s temple.

Combine medical treatment with spiritual covering โ€” do not choose one over the other; walk in both wisdom and faith, “for the prayer of faith will save the sick” (James 5:15) โ€” even as we use the means God has provided through medicine by faith.

๐Ÿ™Œ CLOSING BENEDICTION

Beloved, health is wealth, and the body is the vessel through which we serve God on this earth. Let no man among us die of ignorance, pride, or misplaced faith in unproven remedies while neglecting proper medical care. Faith is not the absence of medicine โ€” faith is trusting God in the presence of every legitimate means He has provided: dietary, medical, and spiritual.

“I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD. โ€” Jeremiah 30:17

Stay blessed. Stay tested. Stay prayed-up.
