🕊️ *LENTEN DEVOTION – DAY 6.* 🕊️

*_Monday (Temptation and spiritual discernment during Lent)_*

💔 *The Crossroads of Temptation.* 💔

On this day, we confront the quiet pull of temptation and the pressure to choose ease over holiness. In Matthew 4:1-11 (NKJV), Jesus faces three temptations in the wilderness, each designed to entice him to disobey. He counters with the Word, declares dependence on the Father, and steps forward in steadfast loyalty. Lent invites us to learn that temptation is not a sin in itself, but refusing its lure is where the struggle becomes holy.

There was this African friend of mine, a typical trader who faces the temptation to rush into a quick profit through sharp practices. The market’s tempo can allure with the appearance of blessing, yet the true blessing comes from integrity, which our forebears taught us—trustworthiness that sustained African families and communities, as the witness of Christ should do to nations. Well, we had so much bliss until slave trade, fraudulent religiosity and colonisation reshaped most of us, Temptation tests our commitments, revealing what we truly worship: wealth, comfort, status, or the living God.

*Reflection:* When the lure comes, how will we respond? Will we recite a quick, convenient compromise, or will we cling to truth, even when the price is high? The answer is not in heroic pose but in choosing daily obedience—moment by moment, breath by breath.

Today’s reflection invites us to lean into Scripture, forget about the human’s. lingering inhumanity to other humans that lingers in our hearts, but saturate our minds with truth, practicing immediate obedience to God in small things.

The discipline of Lent sharpens discernment: we begin to recognise the *_“pattern of the tempter”_* and respond with the armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV). It is not only about facing big temptations but cultivating a habit of small daily refusals that keep us aligned with God’s will.

We end the day by being grateful for His mercy, knowing that Christ dramatically models fearless fidelity. He did not yield to the textures of comfort but embraced the cross for our redemption. May His example strengthen our resolve to walk in integrity, purity, and love.

🙏 *LITURGICAL PRAYER* 🙏

*_O Lord, our Shepherd_* in the wilderness, you know the path that leads to life, and you know the snares that would derail us. On this day of testing, grant me discernment to recognise temptation for what it is – not going back to hating my adversaries. Grant me the courage to say no to what will distance me from You. May I respond with truth, righteousness, and reliance on Your Word at the trial times, just as Jesus did. Strengthen my inner resolve to seek Your will above all else, even when the road is narrow and the reward seems unseen. Amen. *(Psalm 119:11; 1 Corinthians 10:13* NKJV)

*_Prayer for discernment and dependence:_* Father, help to me discern the subtle pressures of our world—whether in business, family, or social media—that coax me toward compromise. Bind that pull with the truth of Your commandments and the liberty found in Christ. May I walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh, today and always. Amen. *(Galatians 5:16-25* NKJV)

*_Intercession for Africa, especially Nigeria in temptation’s corner:_* Lord, protect our nation from endemic corruption that had crept in through greed, impatient preference for shortcuts, and cynicism. Raise up leaders and communities who choose character over convenience; who foster transparency, accountability, and mutual care. Amen. *(Proverbs 11:3* NKJV)

*Closing blessing:* May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit guard your heart as you stand firm against every test. Amen.

*2 Corinthians 13:14* NKJV.

🕊️ *_“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”_ – Matthew 26:41* (NKJV) 🕊️
