🕊️ *LENTEN DEVOTION – DAY 5* 🕊️
*First Sunday in Lent.*
💔 *The Spirit’s Leading in Every Step* 💔
The first Sunday in Lent invites us to consider what it means to be truly led by the Spirit of God—not merely in dramatic moments or special seasons, but in the everyday rhythms of our lives. In Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV), we are instructed: *_“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”_* This is not a call to passive resignation, but to active trust—a daily surrender of our plans, ambitions, and understanding to the One who knows the end from the beginning.
Romans 8:14 (NKJV) tells us that *_“as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”_* To be led by the Spirit is the defining mark of a child of God. Yet how often do we attempt to lead ourselves, trusting our own wisdom, following our own strategies, and only inviting God in when we reach a crisis? Lent calls us to reverse this pattern—to acknowledge Him first, to seek His face before we make our plans, and to listen for His still, small voice before we rush into action.
Consider the farmer who consults the seasons, studies the soil, and waits for the rain before planting his seeds. He does not simply scatter seed at random and hope for the best; he follows the rhythm of creation, trusting that obedience to natural law brings a harvest. How much more should we, as children of the living God, consult the Spirit before we make decisions about our families, our careers, our finances, whom we marry, and our ministries? The Spirit does not merely guide us away from danger; He leads us into the fullness of God’s purpose for our lives.
This Sunday in Lent is a moment to ask ourselves: Are we making decisions based on cultural expectations, family pressures, or personal ambitions—or are we waiting on the Lord, seeking His wisdom, and surrendering our will to His perfect plan after doing our own part? The Spirit’s leading often requires patience, humility, and a willingness to let go of our own agenda. It may mean turning away from what seems profitable, rejecting what appears prestigious, or choosing what appears to be weakness in the eyes of the world. But those who are led by the Spirit are never led astray.
Let us pray that God would renew our hearts to seek Him first in all things—to acknowledge Him in every conversation, every commitment, and every crossroad. May we choose to be led by the Spirit rather than driven by the world, and may our steps be ordered by His Word, not by our fears or desires.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) reminds us: *_“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”_* May this be the rhythm of our lives—from Lagos to London, from village to city, in boardrooms and marketplaces, in homes and churches—as a testimony to the nations that the Lord is our guide.
🙏 *LITURGICAL PRAYER* 🙏
*_O God of wisdom and light,_* whose Spirit hovers over the chaos of our lives and brings order, direction, and peace, I come to You on this first Sunday of Lent with a heart that longs to be led by You. Forgive me for the times I have trusted in my own understanding, leaned on my own strength, and made plans without consulting You. Today, I surrender my will, my ambitions, and my fears to You. Lead me by Your Spirit in every decision, every relationship, and every responsibility. Let my life be a testimony to Your faithfulness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
*_Prayer for divine guidance and Spirit-led living (Proverbs 3:5-6; Romans 8:14):_* Father, I acknowledge You in all my ways today. Guide my steps, illuminate my path, and give me the courage to obey even when Your leading challenges my comfort or contradicts my plans. May families across Nigeria and the world experience the peace that comes from trusting in Your direction. Teach us to wait on You, to listen for Your voice, and to follow wherever You lead. Empower leaders, parents, and young people alike to seek Your wisdom above all else.
*_Intercession for our nation:_* Lord, we lift Nigeria before You—our leaders, our educators, our healthcare workers, and our entrepreneurs. May the Spirit of wisdom rest upon our nation. Break the cycle of corruption, greed, and pride. Raise up men and women who will seek Your face and follow Your leading in public service, business, and ministry. Heal our land, restore our economy, and unite our people in love and righteousness. Amen. *(Psalm 25:4-5; Isaiah 30:21)*
💡 *Closing blessing:* May the LORD guide our steps to do our part faithfully, order our paths into taking the right route to success, and fill us with the wisdom of His Spirit, today and always, in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen. *(Psalm 32:8)*
