🕊️ *LENTEN DEVOTION – DAY 4* 🕊️

*First Saturday of Lent.*

*First Sabbath Day of Lent.*

💔 **The Mirror of Worship** 💔

Today invites us to consider what true worship looks like when it flows from the heart rather than from circumstance or routine. In John 4:23-24 (NKJV), Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that the Father seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth. It is not the external trappings of worship that please God, but the alignment of our inner life with His truth and presence. Lent calls us to re-evaluate where our worship begins and ends: Is it confined to a worship day service, or is it the living posture of our daily lives?

Consider a market vendor who sets out every day of worship with a flawless stall, yet his daily conversations, patience, and integrity waver under pressure every other day. You and I may be impressed by the Holy day display, but the Father judges the heart’s worship in the daily routine—how we speak, how we treat the vulnerable, and how we steward what God has placed in our hands.

Reflection is not merely about feeling spiritually uplifted; it is about our orientation of every rhythm of life toward the glory of God. If our worship remains distant from our daily actions, it becomes hollow. True worship spills over into justice, mercy, and love—expressed in our communities through acts of care, respect for the vulnerable, and honest work that honours God.

This day in Lent challenges us to worship not only with our lips but with our lived obedience. The Samaritan woman’s encounter widened the expectation of worship beyond a single sacred place; it pointed to worship as a daily, intimate fellowship with the living God, carried into work, family, and nation. We are called to offer our whole selves—our ambitions, our plans, our resources—in humble, truthful worship that transforms the world around us.

Let us pray that God would renew our hearts to honour Him in the everyday: to refuse the counterfeit worship of comfort, status, or noise, and to cultivate a worship that offers every moment to Him as an offering of love, service, and truth.

Luke 4:8 (NKJV) reminds us: *_“And Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”_* May that be our daily vow, especially in my home, from sunrise to sunset, in Lagos markets, in quiet street corners, and in every Nigerian home, as a point of contact to the universe.

🙏  *LITURGICAL PRAYER*  🙏

*_O God of all true worship,_* whose throne is everywhere and whose presence fills the earth, I come to You on this Saturday with a heart that longs to worship You in spirit and truth. Help me to translate worship from the sanctuary into the daily rhythm of my life. Let my words, attitudes, and actions reflect Your glory, not the noise of religiosity. Deliver me from hollow rituals and empty routines. Let my life be a continual offering—services of mercy, demonstrations of love, and acts of justice that mirror Your kingdom, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

*_Prayer for alignment of worship and life_ (John 4:23-24; Luke 4:8):* Father, awaken my spirit to worship You wherever I am; guide my steps to honour You in every conversation, decision, and duty. May families —all over the world— feel the ripple of genuine worship through increased generosity, integrity at work, and care for the vulnerable. Renew my heart so that worship is not about me, but about You and Your mission in our nation.

Intercession for our nation: Lord, we lift Nigeria before You—our healthcare workers, teachers, farmers, and market sellers. May true worship move us toward justice, peace, and compassion. Heal divisions, break cycles of corruption, and empower leaders to serve with humility and perseverance. Amen. *(Psalm 100:2; Isaiah 58:6-7)*

*Closing blessing:* May we be divinely empowered worship the LORD our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, today and always, in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen. *(Deuteronomy 6:5)*
