🕊️ LENTEN DEVOTION – DAY 24 🕊
💎 Friday – Fourth Week of Lent. 💎
💔 Courage To Witness 💔
🕊️ Theme: *Boldness of Honest Witness.*
Today we focus on speaking truth with grace, even when it costs us comfort or popularity. In 1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV), Peter writes, *_“but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”_* Our witness is not a weapon but a gift—stewarded with humility, clarity, and compassion. Lent invites us to cultivate a posture of courageous, respectful proclamation that invites curiosity rather than defensiveness.
Africans have a vibrant religious and cultural diversity where faithful witnesses must navigate sensitive terrain with wisdom. It is not speaking truth to power when we embark on destructive criticisms of policy-makers and well-fabricated systems that are yet to effectively work as we presume it does in advanced economies, or politicians will use chicanery to hijack societal progress for selfish motives. A shopkeeper, teacher, or community worker can model integrity and compassionate truth-telling in daily conversations, social media, and public discourse. Courage to witness includes standing for justice, defending the vulnerable, and sharing the hope of Christ in ways that build bridges rather than burn them. Unnecessary combativeness usually backfires. Let us read the scriptures and be smarter than those who stigmatise the anointed without empirical proof.
*Reflection:* What holds you back from sharing your faith or living out its truth in daily life? Is fear of ridicule, misunderstanding, or political consequence inhibiting your boldness? *_Lent_* invites us to replace hesitation with prayerful action—speaking truth with grace, ready to listen as much as speak, and ready to serve as an instrument of God’s peace.
*Today’s practice invites you to:*
Prepare a short, grace-filled testimony you can share in everyday conversations.
Pray for one person you will intentionally reach with kindness and truth this week.
Engage in a gentle, respectful conversation about faith with someone who holds a different perspective. Jesus gave, you must be ready to supply the needs of others to be believed. Metal faith alone is dangerous.
🙏 *LITURGICAL PRAYER* 🙏
*_O Lord, our Source of Courage,_* fill me with a holy boldness that is seasoned with mercy. Help me to become kind-hearted and compassionate as I share the hope I have in Christ with gentleness, respect, and clarity, in a way that honours You and others. May Africa – and the rest of the world – see a witness that is humble, winsome, and wise, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. *(1 Peter 3:15 NKJV)*
*Prayer for prophetic witness in daily life:* Father, grant me opportunities to testify to Your faithfulness in everyday moments—at work, at home, in the marketplace, and online. May my words reflect Your truth without condemnation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. *(Colossians 4:6 NKJV)*
*Intercession for national discourse:* Lord, nurture a culture where courageous truth-tellers are valued, where justice prevails, and where people are drawn to Christ through honest, compassionate conversation. Amen. *(Proverbs 27:6; Isaiah 1:17 NKJV)*
*Closing blessing:* May the Holy Spirit empower your steps as you witness Christ Jesus with love, and may your life be a beacon of hope in our land. Amen. *(Philippians 4:13; Matthew 5:16 NKJV)*
🕊️ *_“Always be ready to give a defence.”_ – 1 Peter 3:15* (NKJV) 🕊️
