๐๏ธ *LENTEN DEVOTION โ DAY 23* ๐
๐ *Thursday –ย Fourth Week of Lent.* ๐
๐ *The Economy of Time in Godโs Kingdom.* ๐
*Theme: Stewardship of Time And Gifts*
Today we reflect on how we steward the seconds, minutes, and days God has entrusted to us. In Matthew 25:14-30 (NKJV), the parable of the talents calls us to faithful, purposeful use of our God-given resourcesโtime, gifts, and opportunities. The servant who multiplies what he has been given is commended; the one who hides his talent is admonished. *_Lent_* calls for reorientation of our plans and calendars of our hearts toward Kingdom renewal: investing in people, truth, mercy, and justice.
The capital cities of African nations, as it is in advanced countries, are known for their busyness, urgent needs, and competing priorities, itโs easy to let time drift toward distraction or self-service. A nurse, a teacher, a small business owner, a studentโeach has a unique temporal gift to steward. Consider a community project that trains youths, a family that allocates time for mentoring, or a church that schedules consistent acts of service. When we invest our time and our talents into the common good, we reflect the generosity of Christ and help shape a nation that honours God.
*Reflection:* What am I doing with my ticking clock today? Are my hours spent on things that outlast meโor on things that outlast eternity? Lent invites a shift: schedule God-centred priorities, prune busy-ness that drains life, and cultivate rhythm of service, worship, and renewal. It is not about being religious or gullible, it is about lifeโs priorities!
*_Todayโs practice invites a practical stewardship plan:_*
Review your weekly calendar to identify time-wasting commitments and reallocate toward Kingdom priorities.
Identify one talent or gift to multiply through service or mentorship.
Set a monthly generosity goal that blesses others beyond your immediate circle.
๐ *LITURGICAL PRAYER* ๐
*_O Lord, our Master Timekeeper,_* help me steward my days as tokens of Your grace. Give me wisdom to do only the right things, having the time and talents to invest for the sake of Your Kingdom, and courage to say no to distractions, and discipline to follow through on intentional acts of mercy. May my schedule reflect Your priorities, and may my life reveal Your generosity to our nation and world โ not fault-finding, in Jesusโ Name. Amen. *(Matthew 25:14-30 NKJV)*
*Prayer for disciplined time management:* Father, help me redeem the time, use my minutes well, and focus my energies on what honours You. May I balance work, family, worship, and service with grace, in Jesusโ Name. Amen. *(Ephesians 5:15-16 NKJV)*
*_Intercession for our worldโs common good in time usage:_* Lord, grant leaders, communities, and families the wisdom to prioritise education, health, service to humanity, and equity in the use of scarce resources. May time be invested for peace, prosperity, and justice, in Jesusโ Name. Amen. *(Proverbs 2:6; Isaiah 32:8 NKJV)*
*Closing blessing:* May your day be richly blessed as you steward time and gifts to bring glory to God and blessing to others, in Jesusโ Name. Amen. *(Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV)*
