🕊️ *LENTEN DEVOTION – DAY 10* 🕊️

*Friday (Quieting the soul before the Lord)*

💔 *The Still Voice in the Storm*💔

Today invites us into the practice of setting aside all distractions, quieting the soul before the Living God. In Psalm 46:10 (NKJV), the Lord admonishes us, *_“Be still, and know that I am God.”_* In 1 Kings 19:11-13 (NKJV), Elijah experiences God not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in the still, small voice. The sovereign God of the universe sovereignly draws near in gentleness to renew strength, calm fear, and recalibrate the heart toward obedience. Quiet thoughts, hurried agenda, and restless worries bow before Him as we attend to His whisper.

Nigeria-context illustration: in our In fast-paced cities and on busy streets, the noise of news cycles, social media, and the pressure to perform can drown out the Spirit’s gentle leading. Yet in the stillness, God can recalibrate our priorities—calling us to pursue truth, justice, and mercy with measured steps. A mother listening for a child’s voice at night, a pastor listening for God’s direction in a crowded parish, a market trader pausing amid chatter to seek God’s wisdom—these are all moments where stillness becomes a fountain of divine guidance for daily life and national responsibility.

*Reflection:* In the rhRRhythmm of Lent, stillness is not stagnation but a deliberate stance of dependence. How often do we hurry through prayer, treat our devotional times as checkmarks, or let anxiety crowd out the Still Small Voice? Today, we practice the discipline of quiet—breathe, listen, and respond in obedience. When God speaks, He often calls us to steps of faith that require courage, humility, and love for neighbour.

Today’s practice invites us to create space for God: a quiet corner, a time-limited listening prayer, and journaling any sense of God’s guidance. As we listen, we may hear Him call us to greater compassion, to truth-telling in love, or to acts of service that build peace and trust within our communities and nation.

🙏 *LITURGICAL PRAYER* 🙏

O God who speaks in the stillness, help me to slow the noise of life enough to hear Your voice. Teach me to listen with a heart open to correction, mercy, and direction. In the quiet, reveal what I should do, where I should go, and how I should love. May the stillness of this day lead to faithful action that honours You and serves Nigeria’s common good. Amen. *(Psalm 46:10; 1 Kings 19:11-13 NKJV)*

*Prayer for attentive listening:* Father, quiet my spirit and enlarge my capacity to hear You above the clamour of the world. May I distinguish Your voice from my own assumptions, and may Your counsel shape my decisions, words, and deeds. Amen. *(John 10:27 NKJV)*

*Intercession for governance and justice:* Lord, grant national leaders and communities the grace to listen to citizens, to the vulnerable, to the truth of Your Word. Let policy-making be informed by wisdom, mercy, and courage to pursue the common good. Amen. *(James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6 NKJV)*

*Closing blessing:* May the Lord grant you quiet confidence in His presence, strength for today, and hope for tomorrow. Amen.

*(Isaiah 40:31; Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)*
