Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, on this first day of a new month, let us come before the Lord with open and expectant hearts, ready to receive the abundant blessings He has in store for us. Our theme today, “Come, O Fount of Every Blessing,” is a call to return to the source of all that is good and true – our Heavenly Father, the fountain of living waters.
In our text, the prophet Jeremiah laments the spiritual condition of God’s people, who have “forsaken [Him] the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” How often do we, like the Israelites of old, turn away from the overflowing wellspring of God’s grace and try to find fulfillment in our ability and might – the broken and empty vessels of this world?
My friends, the hymn we just sang beautifully captures the longing of our hearts to be reconnected to that eternal source of blessing. “Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.” Yet, like the writer of the hymn, we too often find ourselves “prone to wander, prone to leave the God we love.”
But hear the good news, beloved! Our God is a God of boundless love and unfailing mercy. Though we may stray, He is ever-present, reaching out to us with open arms, calling us back to the “fount of every blessing.” As the hymn declares, “Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.”
On this first day of a new month, I invite you to come, to return to the Lord, the fountain of living waters. Let us raise our “Ebenezer” – our stone of help – and declare with grateful hearts, “Hither by Thy help I’ve come.” For it is only in the presence of the Lord, the “vast, the boundless treasure of [our] Lord’s unchanging love,” that we can find true and lasting fulfillment.
Let us no longer hew out for ourselves “broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” Instead, let us turn our hearts to the one who says, “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
My friends, the Lord is calling us to come, to draw near to Him, the fount of every blessing. He desires to “tune our hearts to sing His grace,” to fill us with the “melodious measure sung by flaming tongues above.” Will you answer His call today? Will you open your heart and let the streams of His mercy flow into your life, quenching your deepest thirst and leading you to the eternal joy of His presence?

Heavenly Father, we come before You on this first day of the new month, longing to be reconnected to the fountain of living waters – Your boundless love and grace. Forgive us for the times we have turned away from You, seeking fulfilment in the broken cisterns of this world. Tune our hearts to sing Your praise and bind our wandering hearts to You with the unbreakable bond of Your unchanging love.
Lord, we open ourselves to You, the fount of every blessing. Pour out Your Spirit upon us, that we may be refreshed, renewed, and empowered to live for Your glory. May the streams of Your mercy never cease to flow in our lives, and may we be compelled to share this living water with a world that desperately needs to know Your salvation.
We thank You, Lord, for Your relentless pursuit of us. Help us to ever raise our Ebenezer, declaring, “Hither by Thy help I’ve come.” In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

“Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3)
“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.” (Proverbs 19:17)

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.'” (Psalm 14:1)
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” (Romans 1:18)
- *For a Person who had given up the Hope of living:*
“The LORD is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
- *Success in Personal Endeavours:*
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6)
- *Personal Reconciliation with God:*
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
The theme “Come, O Fount of Every Blessing” speaks to God’s abundant provision, grace, and the invitation to draw near to Him as the source of all blessings. These verses highlight God’s power, love, and desire to restore, guide, and empower us in various aspects of life, from our personal relationships to our endeavours and our relationship with Him.
