πŸ“… Liturgical Day: 18th Sunday After Trinity β€” Harvest Festival Sunday.

πŸ“– Bible Lesson: Matthew 9:35-38; Luke 10:1-20; John 4:34-38.

✍️ Text:

“Then He said to His disciples, β€˜The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.’” β€” Matthew 9:37-38 (NKJV).

πŸ’•πŸ¦… THEME:

THE FIELDS ARE WHITE: LABOURERS FOR THE CITY’S HARVEST β€” The Harvest Was Never Withheld for Want of a Ripened Field, But for Want of a Willing Reaper Bold Enough to Enter It.

🎡 OPENING HYMN MHB. 950 β€” “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”

πŸ” YouTube Search: “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come β€” Henry Alford, Methodist Hymn Book – Illustrated.”

1: COME, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home;
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin;
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home.

2: All the world is God’s own field,
Fruit unto His praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown;
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear;
Lord of harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

3: For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take His harvest home;
From His field shall in that day
All offences purge away;
Give His angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast;
But the fruitful ears to store
In His garner evermore.

4: Even so, Lord, quickly come
To Thy final harvest-home;
Gather Thou Thy people in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin;
There, forever purified,
In Thy presence to abide:
Come, with all Thine angels, come,
Raise the glorious harvest-home.

(Henry Alford, 1844 β€” England’s best-loved Harvest hymn, moving seamlessly from the gathered fields of earth to the final, eternal harvest of souls Christ shall gather home; a fitting overture to a message on labourers for the ripened city.)

πŸ™βœοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯ SEVEN PROPHETIC PRAYERS

(Preparatory β€” Before the Exhortation)

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 1 β€” Eyes Lifted to See the Harvest.

Title: The Field Perceived Before the Field Is Entered.

“Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” β€” John 4:35 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Father of the harvest, open the eyes of every soul in this congregation to see this city as You see it β€” already ripe, already ready, already waiting! Let no believer here delay the reaping by imagining the harvest still distant, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 2 β€” Compassion for the Scattered Multitude.

Title: The Shepherd’s Heart Restored to the Church.

“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” β€” Matthew 9:36 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Compassionate Saviour, fill this congregation with Your own heart for the weary and scattered multitudes of this city! Let no labourer enter this harvest coldly, but every one moved by compassion first, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 3 β€” Labourers Raised Up.

Title: The Prayer That Produces the Sender’s Reply.

“Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” β€” Matthew 9:38 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Lord of the harvest, raise up from this very congregation labourers bold enough, available enough, and consecrated enough to enter the fields ripe for reaping! Let none stand idle while the fields await the sickle, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 4 β€” Sent Without Delay.

Title: Urgency That Refuses Every Detour.

“Carry neither money bag, sack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.” β€” Luke 10:4 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ God of holy urgency, strip from every labourer in this congregation every unnecessary weight and every needless delay! Let none here be distracted from the harvest assignment by lesser matters, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 5 β€” Peace and the Kingdom Released.

Title: The City Greeted With Heaven’s Authority.

“But whatever city you enter… say to them, β€˜The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” β€” Luke 10:8-9 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ King of the Kingdom, let every labourer sent from this congregation carry genuine peace and undeniable authority into every house and street of this city! Let the Kingdom of God draw near wherever they set their feet, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 6 β€” Undeterred by Rejection.

Title: The Sickle That Does Not Retreat.

“But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you… shake off the very dust of your city which clings to you.” β€” Luke 10:10-11 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Unshakeable God, fortify every labourer in this congregation against the discouragement of closed doors and cold receptions! Let rejection never silence the message nor delay the next assignment, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 7 β€” Joy Fixed on Heaven, Not on Power.

Title: Names Written Above the Miracles Performed.

“Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” β€” Luke 10:20 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Eternal Father, anchor the joy of every soul in this congregation not in the visible signs that follow the harvest, but in the eternal reality that our names are written in heaven! Let humility guard every victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

βœοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯πŸ¦… EXHORTATION πŸ‘‘β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯

✍️ Text:

“Then He said to His disciples, β€˜The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.’” β€” Matthew 9:37-38 (NKJV).

πŸ‡πŸ‘‘β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯

In 1885, C. T. Studd β€” one of the most celebrated cricketers in England, heir to a considerable fortune, and captain of the Cambridge University eleven β€” renounced fame, wealth, and comfort to sail for China as a missionary, becoming one of the famed β€˜Cambridge Seven.’ Decades later, well past middle age and in failing health, Studd pressed further still into the unreached interior of Africa, founding what became the Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ mission. His now-famous declaration still echoes across mission history: β€˜Some wish to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.’ Studd did not wait for the harvest to come to him, comfortable and convenient. He went where the fields were whitest β€” and reaped where others merely admired the view from a distance.

Beloved, in today’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the multitudes β€” weary, scattered, shepherdless β€” and rather than allowing compassion to remain a private, inward feeling, He immediately turns it into a command: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

πŸ‡πŸ‘‘β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯

The Compassion That Precedes the Commission.

Matthew records that Jesus, seeing the multitudes, “was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd” (v.36). Note the order: compassion comes first, and mission follows. Christ’s Good News Mission was never called to view the city with detached analysis, cataloguing its brokenness from a safe distance. Every genuine harvest labourer must first weep over the very crowd he or she is sent to reap.

The Field Already White, Not Someday Ripening.

To His disciples, weary from travel, Jesus insists: “lift up your eyes, and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest” (John 4:35). The disciples had reckoned four months remained before reaping; Jesus corrected their calendar entirely. Beloved, this city is not waiting for some more convenient season. Every excuse of timing, resources, or readiness is a delay invented by reluctant reapers, not a reality imposed by an unripe field.

The Labourers Sent, Travelling Light and Urgent.

Jesus sends the seventy in pairs, instructing them: “Carry neither money bag, sack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road” (Luke 10:4). This is not carelessness; it is holy urgency β€” a refusal to let provision, protocol, or pleasantry delay the assignment. Jesus warns plainly, “I send you out as lambs among wolves” (v.3), yet does not withhold the sending on account of the danger. The city’s harvest was never meant to be reaped from safety.

Authority Engaged, Joy Rightly Placed.

Wherever received, the labourers are instructed to declare, “The kingdom of God has come near to you” (v.9), and where rejected, simply to “shake off the very dust” (v.11) and continue onward. The seventy return rejoicing that “even the demons are subject to us” (v.17), and Jesus confirms real authority has been given β€” “authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy” (v.19). Yet He redirects their joy immediately: “do not rejoice in this… but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven” (v.20). The labourer’s confidence rests not in demonstrated power, but in eternal belonging.

Beloved, are you still admiring this city’s harvest from the safety of the pew, or have you been sent into its streets as a labourer with compassion in one hand and authority in the other? The fields will not wait indefinitely for reluctant reapers. Christ has already declared them white.

“Then He said to His disciples, β€˜The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.’” β€” Matthew 9:37-38 (NKJV). βœοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯πŸ¦…

πŸ™βœοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯ SEVEN INTERCESSORY PRAYERS

(Post-Exhortation β€” Prophetic Charismatic Warfare)

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 8 β€” Against the Wolves Among the Lambs.

Title: Divine Protection Over Every Sent Labourer.

“Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.” β€” Luke 10:3 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ My Father, My God β€” we cover every labourer sent from this congregation with the blood of the Lamb! We bind every wolf assigned against them in this city’s harvest field, consumed by Holy Ghost fire, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 9 β€” Against the Spirit of Delay and Excuse.

Title: The Four Months of Procrastination Cancelled.

“Do you not say, β€˜There are still four months and then comes the harvest’?” β€” John 4:35 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ God of the immediate harvest, we break every spirit of delay, procrastination, and false timing over this congregation! We decree the fields are ripe NOW, and this ministry shall reap NOW, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 10 β€” For Trampling Authority Over the Enemy.

Title: Serpents and Scorpions Subdued Beneath Our Feet.

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” β€” Luke 10:19 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Almighty Conqueror, we exercise the authority You have given this congregation over every serpent, scorpion, and power of the enemy resisting the harvest of this city! Let no weapon formed against this mission prosper, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 11 β€” For Open Houses and Receptive Hearts.

Title: Peace Resting Wherever the Labourer Treads.

“But whatever city you enter, and they receive you… say to them, β€˜The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” β€” Luke 10:8-9 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Lord of every open door, prepare hearts and houses across this city to receive the labourers of this congregation with joy! Let the Kingdom of God come near to every soul we encounter, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 12 β€” Against Discouragement in Rejected Places.

Title: The Dust Shaken, the Mission Continued.

“But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you… shake off the very dust of your city which clings to you.” β€” Luke 10:10-11 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Unwavering Father, we refuse every spirit of discouragement assigned to silence this congregation after rejection! Let every closed door only redirect us to the next open field, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 13 β€” For Christ’s Good News Mission: A Harvest-Force for the City.

Title: This Ministry Sent, Sharpened, and Sent Again.

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” β€” Matthew 9:37 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Lord Jesus, we decree that Christ’s Good News Mission becomes a mighty harvest-force in this city β€” labourers sharpened, sent, and multiplied for the ingathering of souls! Let this ministry never lack for workers in the field, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

❀️‍πŸ”₯ Prayer 14 β€” The Warfare Benediction.

Title: Sent Out Rejoicing, Names Written in Heaven.

“Rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” β€” Luke 10:20 (NKJV).

❀️‍πŸ”₯ My Father, My God β€” seal every soul departing this sanctuary today as a labourer sent into the fields already white for harvest! Let them go this week with compassion, courage, and authority, rejoicing that their names are written in heaven, in Jesus’ Name. Amen! ❀️‍πŸ”₯

🎡 CLOSING HYMN MHB. 908 β€” “Hark, the Voice of Jesus Calling”

πŸ” YouTube Search: “Hark, the Voice of Jesus Calling β€” Daniel March, Standard Major Mainstream Hymnals.”

1: HARK, the voice of Jesus calling,
β€œWho will go and work today?
Fields are white, and harvest waiting,
Who will bear the sheaves away?”
Loud and long the Master calleth,
Rich reward He offers free;
Who will answer, gladly saying,
β€œHere am I, send me, send me”?

2: If you cannot cross the ocean,
And the distant lands explore,
You can find the lost one nearer,
You can help them at your door.
If you cannot speak like angels,
If you cannot preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus,
You can say He died for all.

3: If you cannot be the watchman,
Standing high on Zion’s wall,
Pointing out the path to heaven,
Offering life and peace to all,
With your prayers and with your bounties,
You can do what heaven demands;
You can be like faithful Aaron,
Holding up the prophet’s hands.

4: Let none hear you idly saying,
β€œThere is nothing I can do,”
While the souls of earth are dying,
And the Master calls for you.
Take the task He gives you gladly,
Let His work your pleasure be;
Answer quickly when He calleth,
β€œHere am I; send me, send me.”

(Daniel March, 1868 β€” written originally for a missionary sermon on Isaiah 6:8, this stirring hymn of harvest urgency perfectly seals this message, sending Christ’s Good News Mission into the fields already white unto harvest.)
