🦅  *TEXT: Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV):*

*_Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”_* 💕 🦅

💕 Our *BIBLE PASSAGE:* 🦅

💕  *_II Corinthians 5:12-19_*(Be Reconciled To God).

  1. *_For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give you opportunity to boast on our behalf, that you may have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart._*
  2. *_For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you._*
  3. *_For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;_*
  4. *_and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again._*
  5. *_Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we do not know Him that way any longer._*
  6. *_Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new._*
  7. *_Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,_*
  8. *_that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”_*

🦅  And, Our *MHB. 511 Hymn is: _”Be Gone Unbelief, My Saviour Is Near” by_ Jason Feller _Song by _ Indelible Grace Music.* 💕

Begone unbelief, My Saviour is near,
And for my relief will surely appear:
By faith let me wrestle, with God in the storm
And help me my Saviour, the faith to adorn
And help me my Saviour, the faith to adorn.

Though dark be my way, Since he is my guide,
‘Tis mine to obey, and His to provide;
Though cisterns be broken, And creatures all fail,
The word he has spoken will surely prevail.
The word he has spoken will surely prevail.

Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Though cisterns be broken And creatures all fail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail

Why should I complain, Of want or distress
Temptation or pain? He told me no less
The heirs of salvation, I know from his word
Through much tribulation Must follow their Lord
Through much tribulation Must follow their Lord

Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Though cisterns be broken And creatures all fail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail

Since all that I meet will work for my good,
The bitter is sweet, The medicine food;
Though painful at present, will cease before long,
And then, O! how glorious, The conqueror’s song!
And then, O! how glorious, The conqueror’s song!

Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Begone unbelief, The Saviour is here
Though cisterns be broken And creatures all fail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail
The word he has spoken will surely prevail

The credits for the hymn *_“Be Gone Unbelief, My Saviour is Near”_* are:

  • The recording artist (lead vocalist) of “Begone Unbelief” is Jason Feller from Austin Texas, USA, and the song is part of the Indelible Grace Music collection released in 2008.
  • What is Indelible Grace Music? I must quote Rev. Kevin Twit
    – Campus Minister, Reformed University Fellowship at Belmont University:

“Our hope is to help the church recover the tradition of putting old hymns to new music for each generation, and to enrich our worship with a huge view of God and His indelible grace.”

Indelible Grace Music grew out of ministering to college students, primarily through Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). As these, students began to taste more of the depth of the gospel and the richness of the hymn tradition, many began to join the music of their culture with the words of our forefathers (and mothers!), and a movement was born.

Indelible Grace Music’s hope is to be a voice calling their generation back to something rich and solid and beyond the fluff and the trendy. They want to remind God’s people that thinking and worship are not mutually exclusive, and they want to invite the Church to appreciate her heritage without idolising it. They long to open up a world of passion and truth and make it more that just an archaic curiosity for the religiously sentimental. They believe worship is formative, and that it does matter what humans sing. Ultimately, Indelible Grace Music want to nurture a movement and hope their site will provide resources for this.

*Hymn on focus: _“Be Gone Unbelief, My Saviour Is Near.”_*

In general, beloved friends, we could think of hymns as those songs of praise and worship we send up to God, identifying for all to hear His attributes and thanking Him for His amazing intervention in our world and in our lives. Summary of the message of the Hymn – “Begone Unbelief, My Saviour Is Near” – is as highlighted below:

  1. Rejection of Unbelief: The repeated refrain, “Begone unbelief,” serves as a declaration to dispel doubt and fear. The hymn emphasizes that the Saviour is near and will provide relief in times of trouble.

  1. Faith in Trials: The hymn encourages believers to wrestle with their faith during storms and difficulties, highlighting that God is the ultimate guide and provider. It acknowledges that while life may present challenges, faith should remain steadfast.

  1. Dependence on God’s Word: The assurance that “the word he has spoken will surely prevail” underscores the reliability of God’s promises. It reminds worshippers that despite brokenness and failures in life, God’s truth remains constant.

  1. Endurance Through Suffering: The hymn reflects on the reality of tribulation in the Christian journey, reminding believers that hardships are part of following Christ. Yet, it encourages them to maintain hope and trust in God’s ultimate plan.

  1. Transformation of Trials: The message reassures that all experiences, even painful ones, can work for good. It highlights the idea that God uses struggles to refine believers, leading to a glorious outcome.

  1. Celebration of Victory: The hymn concludes with a hopeful outlook, envisioning a future where believers will sing the “conqueror’s song” after enduring trials, celebrating the victory found in Christ.

Overall, “Begone Unbelief” is a powerful anthem that calls believers to trust in God’s presence and promises, encouraging them to face life’s challenges with faith and hope.

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, it is fitting to reflect on the past and embrace the promise of what lies ahead with faith. This year has been marked by significant challenges—depravity in the streets of our nations, dire hunger that afflicts many, and the moral turpitude that has emerged from mismanagement of trust, resources, faith and leadership. Yet, amidst this turbulence, we are called to remember our faithful God who guides those who believe toward hopeful new beginnings.

Let us turn to 2 Corinthians 5:12-19 (NIV) and pick the 17th verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This powerful reminder speaks to the transformative power of believing in Christ, urging us to let go of the past doubts to embrace the new beginnings He offers. We must give our lives to Christ to be able to possess the possessions that following Christ Jesus brings. Moreover, the five points that the LORD is unveiling to us now should encourage you and me to engage with the theme that can foster a spirit of rededication and renewal as we prepare to step into the new year with faith and hope:

  1. The Call to Authenticity (Verses 12-13)

Paul emphasizes the importance of living authentically, not boasting in external appearances but in the heart. As we close this year, we are reminded to humbly examine our own lives. Are we living authentically in our faith, or in our ego or pride? This is a time for rededication, encouraging worshippers to commit to a genuine relationship with God, free from pretense and make-believe.

  1. The Ministry of Reconciliation (Verses 14-16)

Paul speaks of the love of Christ compelling us to live for Him and to view others through the lens of Christ’s love. This outgoing year has brought conflicts and divisions, which comees from partial surrender to the faith in Jesus Christ. As we end the year, we can reflect on our relationships and seek reconciliation. Worshippers can be inspired to rededicate themselves to being ambassadors of peace and love, fostering unity in their communities.

  1. New Creation in Christ (Verse 17)

This verse beautifully illustrates the transformative power of faith. As believers, we are made new in Christ, letting go of the past as we become renewed in our minds. This is a hopeful reminder that no matter what we have faced, we can start anew. Worshippers can be encouraged to rededicate their faith, embracing the new identity they have in Christ as they step into the new year.

  1. The Ministry of Reconciliation (Verse 18)

Paul emphasizes that God has entrusted us with the message of reconciliation. This lesson calls for worshippers to actively participate in God’s work. As we reflect on the passing year, we can commit to being agents of change, sharing the hope of Christ with those around us. Rededicating our faith means embracing our role in God’s mission.

  1. God’s Faithfulness in All Circumstances (Verse 19)

Paul reminds us that God is not counting our sins against us and that He has provided a way for us to be reconciled. This assurance of God’s faithfulness can lead to a deep sense of gratitude and hope. Worshippers can reflect on how God has been present in their struggles and triumphs over the past year, prompting a renewed commitment to trust Him in the coming year.

As we gather for the End of Year Service, let us reflect on these lessons from 2 Corinthians 5:12-19. May they inspire us to close this year with gratitude, authenticity, and a renewed commitment to our faith. Let us embrace the hope of new beginnings, ready to carry the message of reconciliation and love into the new year, trusting in the transformative power of Christ.

Reflection: As we reflect on the past year, we cannot ignore the pain and suffering that have permeated our communities. The streets echo with despair, and many are grappling with the weight of hunger and the dirge of hopelessness. These challenges remind us of our human frailty and the need for divine intervention.

However, in acknowledging these difficulties, we must also recognise the faithfulness of God. Just as the Israelites wandered in the wilderness and were sustained by God’s provision, we too have witnessed moments of grace, kindness, and resilience. The trials we have faced can serve as a catalyst for growth, urging us to deepen our faith and commitment to one another.

Hopeful Beginnings: As we look forward, let us hold onto the hope that springs from our faith. The new year presents an opportunity to realign our priorities, renew our commitment to helping those in need, and seek justice in our communities. We are called to be instruments of change, bringing light to darkness and hope to the hopeless.

Remember: For our end-of-year reflection, I encourage you to meditate on 🦅  Our *TEXT: Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV):*

*_Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”_* 💕 🦅

These verses invite us to let go of past burdens and focus on the future God has in store for us.

To further inspire us in this moment of transition, let us reflect on these inspirational quotes from ecclesiastical authorities:

  1. Pope Francis: “Let us remember that the future is in God’s hands, and we can face it with courage and hope.”
  2. Archbishop Desmond Tutu: “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”
  3. Mother Teresa: “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

As we conclude this year, let us take time to reflect on our faithfulness to God and one another. While the past year has been fraught with challenges, it is also a testament to God’s unwavering love and grace. Embrace the hope that comes with new beginnings, and let us commit to being agents of change in a weary world.

May the Lord bless you as you step out – of the ageing year – into the new year with faith, hope, and love.

Amen. 💕 🦅
