*Exodus 33: 12-17* (Power of God’s Presence)

12. *_Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’
13. *_Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.”_*
14. *_And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”_*
15. *_Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here._*
16. *_For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”_*

7. *_who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God._*
8. *_But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith._*
9. *_Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him_*

This hymn’s writer, Edward Perronet, was the son of the Rev. Vincent Perronet, Vicar of Shoreham, Kent. He was an intimate associate of the Wesley siblings at Canterbury and Norwich for some time. He afterwards became pastor of a dissenting congregation. He died in 1792. In 1784, he published a small volume, “Occasional Verses, Moral and Social,” a scarce book. At his death, he is said to have left a large sum of money to Shrubsole, who was organist at Spafield’s Chapel, London, and had composed the tune “Miles Lane” for “All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!” –Annotations of the Hymnal, Charles Hutchins, M.A. 1872. —— Perronet, Edward. The Perronet family of England, grandfather, father, and son, were French émigrés. David Perronet.

The tune used here is DIADEM, one of three internationally acclaimed tunes, which also includes CORONATION. The tune to “All Hail the Power” here is DIADEM, composed by James Ellor in 1838, using the same lyrics.

*_Let us pray:_*

 

1. Every power that blocked my father and mother from having genuine testimony to share in their lives will become impotent against me. I bind every evil agent and dislodge them from their hiding places: I cremate them in Jesus’ Name. (Amos 9:3; Psalm 18:45; 2 Sam.22:46).

 

2. Every Pharaoh positioned against the manifestation of my positive destiny is now wasted in the mighty Name of Jesus.

 

3. (Luke 11: 20) With the finger of God, O Holy Spirit – cast my worries and iniquities into the bottomless pit, in Jesus’ Name.

 

4. The door God has opened for my success shall never be shut against me. I decree that my success helpers will never be discouraged, derailed or deranged, in Jesus’ Name.

 

5. What Jesus Christ has finished on the cross will never finish me. Hence, the LORD has paralysed every personality of evil set to hinder my manifestation – in Jesus’ Name.

 

6. (Acts. 13:6-12) I command blindness, deafness and dumbness as the portion of every monitoring spirit that attacks my prayers and progress – in the Name of Jesus Christ.

 

7. (Isaiah 51:9-11) Awake, O arm of the Lord and annul every decree using indebtedness, sickness or death-wish attack against my family, ministry or endeavours – in the mighty Name of Jesus. (Exodus 23:25)

Beloved, the divine empowerment begins with *“The Essentiality of Divine Power.”* To have the power to possess our possessions, we need the contents of *Exodus 33: 12-17* (Power of God’s Presence) and *Acts 13:6-12* where we get the assurance of the power to defeat the strongman against our calling, life, family and destiny.

We began by consulting our source through our OWNER’S MANUAL – the Holy Bible. With faith, we prayed following divine directives. Now, let us hold on to three keywords from our text: *_Ask, Seek, and Knock!_*

In our Old Testament Lesson, Moses asked, believed, and received what he requested. We usually ask and do not receive because our obedience is incomplete. We must be God’s own to ask and receive fulfilment.

Moses received the presence of God, abiding with him all through his campaign and becoming a true success in the process! He became so powerful that even his adversaries suffered (or died) for standing against him. With the presence of God, Moses became a great Man. *_We all need the Power of God’s Presence!_*

 

In the New Testament, Paul and Barnabas’ Preaching and teaching of the word of God convinced the Pro-Consul, Sergius Paulus, in Cyprus. It was not an easy task as Elymas the Sorcerer – Bar-Jesus – stood as the hinderer of the gospel. It took a man in whom the Spirit of God lives to discern the evil blockade and act aright by making the evil genie blind for a season for the soul of the Pro-Consul to be saved. This tells us about the worth of a soul – where the forces of evil and good must clash to save a soul. The presence of God makes impossibility possible. *_All believers need Power!_*

 

*_The Essentiality of Divine Power_* sheds light through the Old Testament Lesson, which figuratively elaborates on the Power of God’s Presence, and the New Testament Lesson, which speaks about God’s Holy Spirit’s Power to expose and defeat evil powers. We need God’s POWER to discern spirits and take prompt and appropriate action.

 

*_Essentiality_* is the quality of anything “essential”—indispensable. The Powerful Processes in Christian Psychology extol the Essentiality of Divine Power, affirming that power is essential for a fulfilled Christian life.

 

Genuine Christians must be attentive to Jesus Christ’s guidance. Hence, we must consider two words that are interchangeably used to mean the same thing: *_Authority and Power!_*

 

*_Authority_* is called EXOUSIA in the Greek  Language. Authority is exercised on behalf of someone greater: a Lord or God! *_“Exousia”_* is the grace given from above to determine, adjudicate, or settle matters in a particular jurisdiction.

*_Power_* (*_Dunamis_* in Greek) is a body or authority’s explosive strength, might or force. Power is the ability to execute a given function with possession of control over people. *_“Dynamikos”_* is the Greek word for dynamic power – the effective action of a force that motivates or affects development or stability.

A performing Christian uses *_“dunamis”_* – the explosive power of God’s presence.

 

*_The Essentiality of Divine Power,_* therefore, refers to the indispensability of the authority and the power of God’s presence in the life and deeds of a Christian for the manifestation of divine possibilities and fulfilment. When we are in God’s presence, He will have His way and make all our impossibilities give way to positive achievements.

 

*_Our main discourse today entails that we all need to give our lives to Christ for the abundance of all graces. Often, we ask and do not receive because our obedience is incomplete. We must be God’s own to ask and receive. That means – in asking – we must believe to receive fulfilment. WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN. When we ASK in agreement with God’s will, we might need to SEEK – going beyond praying to take proactive steps and studying God’s words for direction. That we must KNOCK means we must add persistence to diligence till we achieve our fulfilment._*

 

To conclude this discourse on Sunday, the 1^st day of December 2024, we shall consider why we need power, how to secure our rights to success, and how to find a permanent place in God’s presence.

 

*_I pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us to live in a way that glorifies God and, in doing so, pave the way for His power to work through us to improve the lives of others, in Jesus’ Name!_*

2. 💕*_In Jesus’ Name, I speak against every opposition standing between the faithful ministers of God and their consecration: Let them perish now!_*

 

3. 💕*_I am indomitable through Christ Jesus! Every “rise-but-fall” curse that beckons on me to follow the path of evil so that I may lose divine empowerment, I cast you into the abyss, in Jesus’ mighty Name._*

 

4. 💕*_Where is my spiritual baptism to walk in the perfection of Divine Power? Manifest for the flourishing of God’s will, in Jesus’ mighty Name._*

As God’s Anointed, I humbly prophesy, according to the Word of God, the worst declarations against your life are NOW divinely annulled and defeated, in Jesus’ mighty Name.
